EDUCATION>

ISP is committed to ensuring all children and young people have access to education, enabling them to learn and realise their full potential. ISP aims to meet the educational needs of each child and young person through identifying an educational environment that is appropriate to their individual needs, abilities and aptitudes.

ISP aims to do this by:

  • Respecting the rights and entitlements of every individual.
  • Encouraging and nurturing individuality.
  • Providing a foundation for children and young people to learn and acquire life skills for successful integration into society.
  • Encouraging growth and development of self-esteem and positive self-worth.

ISP's objectives are to:

  • Uphold the beliefs of the "UN Convention in the Rights of the Child" and comply with all educational legislation since and including the Education Act 1944.
  • Offer equal opportunities to all regardless of background, race, culture, religion or personal history.
  • Give every child access to an individually tailored and differentiated, broad-based educational programme that includes core elements of the National Curriculum and appropriate studies of other subjects.
  • Maximise and enhance personal goals and achievement within their educational career.

ISP's Educational Team monitors and co-ordinates the education of all children and young people placed with them. To do this effectively, the team continually liaises with the child or young person's mainstream school or college. In addition, ISP has created its own fully inspected schools for those children and young people who find it particularly difficult to access a conventional school environment. Presently, 85% of ISP children attend local mainstream schools; the remaining 15% are educated by ISP.

ISP offers three types of schooling depending on individual needs and abilities. These are as follows:

  • ISP Junior School based at Teynham for young children aged 7-11 who have Emotional/Behavioural and Social Difficulties.
  • ISP Senior School based at Sittingbourne for young people aged 11-16 who have Emotional/Behavioural and Social Difficulties.
  • ISP Teynham based at Castlewood Farm for young people aged 11-16 with Moderate Learning Difficulties and Emotional/Behavioural and Social Difficulties.

The Education Team at ISP view every placement as a work in progress. They not only provide the most appropriate educational programme but also assist young people in their passage to the future. This may take the form of arranging work experience or providing one-to-one advice on further education and careers.

ISP's commitment to the ongoing development of the children and young people we care for has driven us to form excellent links with a wide range of colleges and local employers.
