Mainstream Education and Special Schools Page

ISP is committed to ensuring all children and young people have access to education, enabling them to learn and realise their full potential. ISP aims to meet the educational needs of each child and young person through identifying an educational environment that is appropriate to their individual needs, abilities and aptitudes.

ISP aims to do this by:

  • Respecting the rights and entitlements of every individual.
  • Encouraging and nurturing individuality.
  • Providing a foundation for children and young people to learn and acquire life skills for successful integration into society.
  • Encouraging growth and development of self-esteem and positive self-worth.

ISP's objectives are to:

  • Uphold the beliefs of the "UN Convention in the Rights of the Child" and comply with all educational legislation since and including the Education Act 1944.
  • Offer equal opportunities to all regardless of background, race, culture, religion or personal history.
  • Give every child access to an individually tailored and differentiated, broad-based educational programme that includes core elements of the National Curriculum and appropriate studies of other subjects.
  • Maximise and enhance personal goals and achievement within their educational career.

There are two distinct education services offered by ISP.  The first is through its Mainstream Education Teams that monitor and co-ordinate the education of children and young people who are able to access regular schools but sometimes need additional support to keep them on track. To do this effectively the teams keep in regular contact with the child or young person's school or college and provide mentoring or additional tutors as necessary.

ISP operates two registered special schools for those children and young people who find it particularly difficult to access a conventional school environment. Presently, 81% of ISP children attend local mainstream schools; the remaining 11% are educated by ISP.  (8% of placements not school age i.e. over age, parent, baby)

Each of our schools offers a range of different experiences.

  • ISP Sittingbourne School based in Sittingbourne town for young people aged 11-16 who have severe Emotional/Behavioural and Social Difficulties and associated learning difficulties offers National Curriculum Studies, therapy services and access to local leisure facilities.
  • ISP Teynham School based at Castlewood Farm for young people aged 7-16 with severe Emotional/Behavioural and Social Difficulties and associated learning difficulties offers Primary Nurture Support, National Curriculum studies, Vocational, outdoor and adventurous Education and access to therapy services.

The Staff at ISP view every education placement as a work in progress. They not only provide the most appropriate curriculum programme but also assist young people in their passage to the future. This may take the form of arranging work experience or providing one-to-one advice on further education and careers.

ISP's commitment to the ongoing development of the children and young people we care for has driven us to form excellent links with a wide range of colleges and local employers.
